A Little Birdy Just Told Me….

The other day I had the oppertunity to speak with a RIM rep about what is going on with RIM and BlackBerry. If you have noticed, other Smartphone companies have released some pretty nice looking phones recently such as the HTC EVO 4G, the I-Phone 4, the HTC Incredible, and we will soon be seeing Droid X. Now with all of these phones being released (or soon to be released) many people have been saying RIM has been just sitting back and watching the compition get away. However when I stated this to the RIM rep that I had met with she said that RIM isn’t worried.

The first reason not to be worried is the fact that Apple has kind of dropped the ball with the release of the I-Phone 4. The way the devices have been shipped out have left millions of people on millions of call back lists at retailers. Also the whole issue with the attena and the pictures of the I-Phone 4 burning people has rubbed consumers who were thinking of making the switch the wrong way.

Secondly with the launch of the HTC Evo 4G many people are worried about the coverage of Sprints 4G network. Think about it Sprint is not a carrier like Verizon and AT&T who spend Billions of dollars on advertising that their network is amazing.  Many people don’t know what Sprint’s network has to offer. Also the Evo’s Battery life is not that great considering the size of the screen and the 4G network. This has caused many Evo buyers to return the device to where ever they got it from.

RIM knows that it really needs to do something and do something fast, but their big power punch (AKA BlackBerry OS 6) is not ready to be released yet. I am kind of happy to see RIM take their time with something because it means they really want to get this right and they know this move will make or break them. The RIM rep also said that we will be seeing a number of devices being launched when OS 6 is launched. That means we will probably be seeing devices such as the Bold 9800 Slider, the 9670 Clamshell, and the 9300. Also the RIM rep stated that after that RIM still has a lot more  things to come that they are all really excited for! Stay tuned BlackBerry fans and don’t jump ship yet ;)
